Your Fibre Optic Router has several connection ports:

  • The incoming fibre pigtail from the wall-box to the router. Note, this is a relatively delicate connection and care should be taken not to pull, push, twist, trap or inadvertently tie a knot in this incoming fibre. The standard length supplied is one metre, but longer connectors can be supplied to order if needed.
  • Incoming power. The input power cable is one metre in length, and it is strongly recommended that the router is plugged into a wall-mounted main socket and not into an extension strip. Your router will cease to work in the event of a power supply failure, but you can protect against this by adding a small UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) device into the power socket. We can supply such a device if required or you are free to supply your own. Most consumer UPS supplies will ensure that the router will continue in operation for up to one hour in the event of mains failure.
  • There are four ethernet connection points taking standard RJ45 connectors, all marked in yellow. This is where you should plug your hard-wired Cat5/Cat6 cables to distribute the connection around your building.
  • There are two RJ11 ports in grey, marked Phone 1 and 2. These are not used in our implementation at HCN, and the ports should have had blanking plugs inserted. Do not connect your phone to these ports – they will not work.
  • There is a single USB port on the router. This is not used for data on our implementation, but it is an active power point to supply charging voltages to your smartphone, tablet or other device.
